Coral Gables Alimony Lawyer
When two people decide to end their marriage, alimony is a very important matter that needs to be addressed. It is the amount of money that one person in the marriage is held accountable for providing to the other. Alimony is dependent on the length of the marriage as well as the earning potential of each of the individuals involved. At Gautier & Hasty, P.L., we are dedicated to making the divorce process as simple as possible for our clients and figuring out the type of alimony as well as how much should be allotted to the deserving spouse.
Different Types of Alimony in Florida
The different types of alimony in the state of Florida include:
- Temporary Alimony: This type of alimony is provided to a spouse during the divorce process. Once the divorce is final, temporary alimony is stopped and a new type of alimony may begin.
- Permanent Alimony: The longer the marriage, the higher the likelihood of permanent alimony. It is utilized when no other form of alimony is substantial enough to provide for the financial support of a spouse. Permanent alimony is a way to make sure that their standard of living after the divorce remains consistent with the standard of living during the marriage.
- Durational Alimony: This is the bridge between permanent and rehabilitative alimony. The time of durational alimony does not exceed the length of the marriage which means that if two individuals were married for a duration of seven years, the amount of alimony does not last any longer than seven years following the divorce.
- Rehabilitative Alimony: When a spouse returns to school or requires education to become self-supportive, rehabilitative alimony may be used. A plan of action must be provided to the court in order for the fair amount of alimony to be awarded to the individual.
- Bridge-The-Gap Alimony: When a spouse is in need of financial support for a short period of time, bridge-the-gap alimony may be an option. There is a maximum length of two years that it can be used in which time a spouse may be waiting to complete school, sell a house or any other temporary reason.
- Lump-Sum Alimony: This refers to temporary payments or one single payment provided from one spouse to the other.
